Different Home Care Options NJ

Most seniors and family caregivers know that they need help at home, but with so many different home care options, their unsure of what type of care they need.



There is non-medical personal care and private duty nursing care, there is also the broader range of home care such as Live in care, Hourly Care and Overnight care.


Non-Medical personal care assist seniors with activities of daily living, such as bathing, dressing, assistance walking or transferring to and from a wheelchair and companionship.


Private duty nursing care is for seniors who need medical care for a chronic condition or disability. Professionals who provide home-based nursing care are either RNs (registered nurses) or LPNs (licensed practical nurses).

There is also Disease specific home care options such as Dementia Care, Alzheimer’s Care, Cancer Care, Parkinson’s Care.


Disease specific home care is usually provided by a caregiver trained in that specific care.


Live in care is done by a certified Live-in caregiver who provides intermittent care over a 24 hour period, with meal breaks and uninterrupted sleep hours. Live in caregivers help with daily living activities and personal care.


Hourly care like Live in caregivers, help with daily living activities and personal care, but this is considered Pay by the hour In Home Care.


Overnight care like hourly and live in care, help with daily living activities and personal care, but the main focus of overnight care is usually for safety supervision for seniors that have needs that extend into the hours of the night.
