  • Personal protective equipment (PPE) use (masks, gloves, etc.)

  • Blood-borne pathogen standards and safety protocols

  • Coronavirus overview from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)

  • Reviewing policies and procedures that address staying home when sick and reporting illness

  • Preparing our offices for possible closures or work from home situations

  • Informing caregivers of what to do if they have been exposed to someone sent for testing or waiting for results, or who tests positive for COVID-19

  • Providing updated information on the pandemic as it becomes available

    • Hand hygiene standards

The CDC reports that the average COVID-19 symptoms are fever, cough, and shortness of breath. They could appear anywhere from 2-14 days after coming in contact with the illness. Those who are at a higher risk for developing severe illness from COVID-19 include the elderly and anyone of any age who has a serious underlying medical condition.

Key Wellness Tips for New Jersey Families

The professionals at Amorycare of New Jersey have developed senior care wellness tips for our caregivers to follow, as well as families to learn from.

  1. Prioritize personal care: Research shows that good hygiene practices diminish the chance of contracting illnesses. Some of the many practices to stay on top of include handwashing, changing clothes, brushing teeth, and bathing. One of our caregivers specializing in personal care can help your loved one practice good hygiene practices such as these.

  2. Practice social distancing: The CDC reports that one of the most common ways that COVID-19 spreads is from person-to-person. For example, if an infected person coughs or sneezes, it can infect another person lying six-feet-away or less. As a result, your loved one should practice social distancing to diminish the chance of contracting the illness. To help your loved one stay at home, our caregivers can perform important tasks such as grocery shopping and picking up medication.

  3. Keep the home clean: Depending on the surface, COVID-19 can linger on it for up to three days. It’s important to keep surfaces disinfected, especially those that are touched frequently. An Angel companion can help your loved one keep on top of the housekeeping and ensure that everything stays clean.
